Concept Explanation

Organization of Animal Body

As we know the smallest unit of life in any living organism is cells. As the evolution progress larger organisms appeared with enormous number of cells in the body. For proper functioning of the body it become necessary to that functions are distributed in the group of cells known as tissue.

Tissue is a group of cells with common origin, structure and function that work together to perform a particular function. For example Blood, bone, cartilage etc. Such higher and higher grouping of cells is called as level of organisation. These levels are Cellular level, Tissue level, Organ level, and Organism.

Cells group together to form tissues.Tissues in turn group together to form organs. for example stomach, intestine, trachea, heart, lungs etc. Various organs group together to form even larger functional system called as organ system. For example: Respiratory system, shoot system in plants etc.

Although the basic cell structure is the same in plants and animals, but there are visible differences so far as organization at the tissue level is concerned. Moreover, the plant body is usually fixed, i.e., they do not move about except a few unicellular algae. Most plant tissues are dead and supportive. They no longer have living protoplasm. As they do not move, they do not require much energy.

Note:

  • Animals move from place to place in search of food, shelter and mate. Therefore, they require more energy as compared to plants. Most animal tissues contain living cells.
  • Plants have some localized regions with special tissues that can divide throughout their life. There is no such distinct region in animals. Growth in animals remains uniform.
